We're thrilled to announce that Mike Jarrell has joined Shoppable as our new Head of Engineering!
Mike brings a passion for innovative technology, customer-focused problem-solving, and a leadership style that perfectly aligns with Shoppable's company culture.
He's been in eCommerce for over 20 years, and he recently transitioned to Shoppable from his role at Salsify.
As Shoppable continues to expand its universal eCommerce solutions, Mike will play a crucial role in driving the technical vision forward and helping more businesses succeed in e-commerce. Let's get to know the newest member of our leadership team.
What drew you to Shoppable?
"Shoppable really hit that sweet spot for me — where innovative tech meets real-world business impact. The idea of enabling seamless, embedded eCommerce isn't just cool, it's useful in a way that actually makes people's lives easier and enables more businesses to sell their products online, regardless of size. The coolest part? We haven't even scratched the surface of what this tech can really do.
Beyond the tech, it was the team and culture that really sold me. Everyone I met during the interview process was sharp, driven, and refreshingly down-to-earth. I wanted to be part of a place where ideas move fast, egos move slow, and there's real excitement about building something meaningful together. Who wouldn't be attracted to that?"
What's your favorite part of building technology?
"Like all engineers, I'm obsessed with problem-solving. I love talking to customers, drilling into their pain points, and finding innovative ways to address them."
What's one tech trend you're excited about right now?
"Like everyone else, I'm really excited (and maybe a bit apprehensive) about the rise of AI — tools that don't just automate tasks, but actually collaborate with you. In a lot of ways, it's like having a super helpful admin who never sleeps. Whether it's coding assistance, content generation, or just cutting through the noise of a million Slack messages, these tools are changing the way we work. It's not just about working faster — it's about working smarter (and maybe keeping our sanity intact in the process)."
What's your go-to productivity hack?
"I'm a huge believer in time blocking. I treat my calendar like it's sacred: blocks for deep work, blocks for meetings and even blocks for family time after hours so I don't wind up with late meetings on my calendar. The magic is that it forces me to protect my focus. Bonus hack: I also schedule time not to work. Mental breaks are maintenance, not laziness. Like restarting a server, but with coffee."
Life Outside of Shoppable
When Mike isn't leading our engineering team, you'll likely find him busy with his three children under three years old. "Outside of work, you're most likely to find me changing diapers and prepping bottles," he says. He's also passionate about personal fitness, waking up at 4:30 AM daily to lift weights, and enjoys after-work walks with his family around their neighborhood.
As for his coffee preferences, Mike keeps it simple: "I take my coffee black – no cream, no sugar, no fancy whips or flavors or other things. I am often overwhelmed by choice when ordering at coffee shops!"
And his comfort show? "I am forever in the middle of a The West Wing rewatch. I've probably watched it all the way through 20 times over the years. It is my comfort show. Hearing the theme song instantly puts me in a good mood."
